Caretaker Manager 6th January 2005 – 21st January 2005
and also 17th January 2007 – 19th February 2007
Heath had a brilliant playing career as a striker/ attacking midfielder, most notably for Everton where he won the FA Cup, two First Division titles and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. He also was also capped for England U21s and only a cruciate ligament injury stopped him gaining full caps.
Former Everton teammate Peter Reid brought Heath to Coventry as assistant as he also did when in charge at Leeds United. When Reid was sacked Heath took over as caretaker. He was in charge for three games, a home FA Cup win over Crewe and two defeats, Ipswich A and QPR H. New boss Micky Adams was at the latter game and may have had words to say to the team but did not officially take over until the following Monday.
He stayed on as assistant when Micky Adams took over and again stepped in to the caretaker role when Adams was sacked after the Bristol City FA Cup defeat in January 2007. He had five games in charge, one win – Luton H, a home draw with Cardiff and three away defeats, Plymouth, Sunderland and Leicester. He left the club when Iain Dowie took over.
