Caretaker Manager 29th September 2016 – 21st December 2016
Mark Venus put in charge temporarily following the resignation of long-term managerial colleague Tony Mowbray. He was initially expected to be in charge until January but, with results suffering, the urgency to find a replacement increased and the club turned to Russell Slade.
At one point Venus was technical director, board member and interim manager and stayed on in the technical director role after Slade’s appointment. He eventually stepped down from that role on 31st March 2017, unhappy that Mark Robins was appointed to replace the disastrous Slade without his input. He was also growing increasingly dissatisfied with his role at a time when chairman Tim Fisher admitted that the club had failed in their last three transfer windows
