Bob Ward

Bob had a tremendous reputation in Coventry local football before and during the Second World War winning honours with Bedworth Town and AWA Baginton. Normally a full-back, Bob played several wartime games for City as a guest and played is only competitive game for the club in a Third Round FA Cup tie in 1946 against Aston Villa at Villa Park. For the only time in the competition’s history the early rounds were over two legs and City had beaten Villa 2-1 in the first leg. The second leg ended in disaster as Ward, playing out of position at right-half, was sent off, and City lost 0-2.

The following season Bob was a regular with Bedworth again and later played for Rugby Tow. After retiring from playing he went into coaching and formed a strong and successful relationship with Jimmy Knox at AP Leamington and VS Rugby.
