Fred Herbert
Fred Herbert, nicknamed "Cute", was the local lad who made good. He arrived at City after a highly successful career in local football whilst employed at Exhall Colliery. He was a bustling forward who was characterised by his close-cropped, slicked-back hair. He was used along the forward line, but was mostly played at inside left - his preferred position and from where he scored the vast majority of his goals - or on the left wing. Towards the end of his days at City, he suffered from injury and was allowed to move to Brierley Hill Alliance, becoming a publican in Bedworth 12 months later.
He set a scoring record at City, which was subsequently eclipsed by Clarrie Bourton.
