Goodwin signed for City by accident. ‘Reggie’ as he was nicknamed drove his brother to a trial match and as they were a player short, he played and impressed enough to be signed. At the start of the 1970-71 season Noel Cantwell blooded the strapping midfield player but after four games it was clear that he was not good enough for the First Division. A few weeks later former City assistant manager Pat Saward took him to Brighton where he had four good years before moving back to the Midlands to play for Nuneaton Borough. Ian still lives in Nuneaton.
