Signed by Gordon Milne from QPR for £40,000 in June 1976 the skilful midfielder was a regular in his first season but an injury and Milne’s change of tactics to 4-2-4 in 1977 subsequently limited his appearances. He lost his right sided midfield role when Ray Graydon arrived and he was a regular substitute, coming off the bench at West Brom to score a late equaliser with his first touch in a 3-3 draw.
Returning to London in 1978 he joined Fulham for £70,000 and had a long career in the lower divisions with Fulham, Bournemouth and Cambridge United. In 1988 he retired and took his first managerial job with the latter club, achieving two promotions in quick succession to take the Us to the brink of the Premiership with a much criticised long-ball game and gamesmanship. He later managed Preston, Lincoln and Cambridge again with less success. Currently coaching at newly promoted Conference club Histon.
