One of several youngsters spotted in the East Midlands by Harry Storer’s scouts, the right-winger came through the Modern Machines team that generated so many good players for the club in the early 1950s. His only first-team appearances came when Gordon Nutt was sold and when Alan Moore was signed Cresswell was back to the ‘stiffs’. In 1955 he was released and joined Guilford City who won the Southern League with his assistance. In 1957 he joined Boston United.
