Micky Adams signed the tall Bermudian striker on loan from Reading in the spring of 2005 when relegation looked a strong possibility for the Sky Blues. Goater, a former Manchester United trainee, had a remarkable scoring record in the lower divisions scoring over 200 goals with Rotherham, Bristol City and Manchester City but had hit the buffers at Reading.
Nicknamed ‘the Goat’, Shaun is a legend at Manchester City whom he helped to two successive promotions, and captained the side in his final game, the last game at Maine Road. He failed to score in his six games in a City shirt but created chances for others and helped City survive. He had a successful spell at Southend before hanging up his boots in 2006. That year he was awarded the MBE for his services to Bermuda sport and returned to live in Bermuda where he runs the Bermuda Hogges, who play in the third level of the USA football pyramid.
