Although primarily used as a defender Virgo was a verasatile player who also played as a midfielder and striker during his career. He was brought in on a season long loan deal by Micky Adams as he was struggling for game time with Gordon Strachan's Celtic side. Virgo unluckily injured his knee in his second City game and was then out for 4 months before returning towards the end of the season under Iain Dowie who had replaced Micky Adams as manager. Further knee problems forced his retirement at the age of 30 and he is now a pundit on TV and radio.
