An outstanding youth left back in a golden era which produced Danny Thomas, Mark Hateley and many others, David won England youth honours and was tipped for a golden future. The tall, skilful failed to become a regular, understudying first Bobby McDonald, then later Brian Roberts and was released in 1982 by Dave Sexton after off the field disciplinary issues. After leaving the club he had a long career with lower division clubs including Ipswich, Wolves, Watford, Sheffield United and Colchester.
