A left-winger who made his only senior appearance for City in a 5-2 home win over Fulham in September 1947 as an emergency deputy for the injured George Ashall. During the war Betts had been a guest player for Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. He was released in 1948 and joined Nuneaton but a year later earned a recall to league football with Walsall and he also played for Rochdale, Crewe, Wrexham and Oldham.
