Signed by Harry Storer as a 17-year old apprentice Frank had to wait four years for his first team debut. A full-back who could play on either side of the pitch, he had tough competition for a first-team place and only became a regular under Billy Frith in 1960. From Austrian descent Frank always gave 100% and was a tough tackler.
In 1961 he was sent off at Loftus Road in an FA Cup tie for persistently fouling Clive Clark but he was not a vicious player. After Jimmy Hill brought in John Sillett Frank’s appearances diminished but always performed well when called upon. On transfer deadline day in 1964 he joined Walsall, managed by his old team-mate Alf Wood but tragically broke his leg in only his twelfth game for the Saddlers and was forced to retire.
