A solid full-back who played for Sunderland during the war and joined Second Division Chesterfield from non-league Stockton in 1946. The balding defender impressed Harry Storer in two games against City but once at Highfield Road he failed to dislodge the evergreen Dick Mason from the left-back position and played very few games. His final game was a nightmare 1-4 home defeat to Hull. His whereabouts after leaving Coventry in 1952 are unknown but he died in the early 1990s.
