Ron Atkinson signed central defender Daish from Birmingham City for £1.5 million in February 1996 at the same time as Scot Eoin Jess. Less than a year later, after only 34 appearances, Liam suffered a knee injury in training and despite two years of operations and treatment he finally resigned himself to the fact that his professional career was over in the summer of 1999.  
Daish made his name at the Cambridge United alongside Dion Dublin in John Beck's infamous team that went from Division 4 to Division 2 in successive seasons and created a few Cup shocks in the early 1990s. City fans may remember him for the gruesome tackle which put Martyn Booty on a stretcher in January 1992.
Barry Fry signed him for Birmingham for £50,000 in 1994 and the whole hearted defender led the Blues to the Second Division title and the Auto Windscreen trophy in 1995. His performances won him a recall to the Republic of Ireland squad and he was voted into the PFA Division Two team. After his move to City he won three more caps but his fifth and final cap was marred by a red card against Mexico in a 'friendly' game. Liam moved to the Isle of Wight and played for and later managed Havant & Waterlooville in the Doc Martens League, helping them to reach the semi-final of the FA Trophy. After being caretaker manager at Welling United he was appointed full-time manager of Conference side Gravesend & Northfleet (now known as Ebbsfleet United) in 2005.
