Bobby Gould signed the classy defender from Bradford City in the summer of 1992 and he made his debut as a substitute in City’s first Premier League game against Middlesbrough. He took a while to settle but once in his favourite central defensive position he blossomed and earned a place in Jack Charlton’s Republic of Ireland squad for the 1994 World Cup finals in USA. He returned an international star and it was inevitable that he would move on and City pocketed £3.6 million from Liverpool, a British record for a defender. He had six fairly successful years at Anfield and took his Irish cap haul to 35 and later played for Sporting Lisbon and Sunderland before retiring in 2004.

Coca-Cola cup winner 1994-95 with Liverpool.
Portuguese Primeira Liga winner 2001-02 and Taca de Portgual (Portuguese Cup) winner 2001-02 with Sporting CP.
