Football League Division Two champion 1966-67

Dietmar’s German parents brought him to Coventry as a child and he joined City straight from Bishop Ullathorne School as a sixteen-year old. Within a year he made his debut as an industrious wing-half. “Bruckie" blossomed under Jimmy Hill and became a first-team regular in 1962-63 as an attacking wing half, scoring a vital goal against Sunderland in the FA Cup. In 1965 he was the first substitute to be used by the club when he replaced Ron Farmer in a home game with Manchester City.
Stiff competition at half back convinced him to convert to left back and was a virtual ever-present in the Second Division championship side in 1967 and in Division One for one season. He scored a goal in City’s first home game in the top flight and also became the first City player to be sent off in the First Division (against Manchester City). After Chris Cattlin arrived he was used less frequently but always gave 100%. In 1970 he joined Charlton Athletic and in 1972 returned with them to Highfield Road for a well deserved testimonial game. He later played for Northampton and was player-manager at non-league Weymouth. He still lives in the Coventry area and moved into the insurance business.
