In August 1988 the 20-year old winger who was on Celtic’s books came to Coventry for a trial and shone as a secret triallist in a first team friendly at Gloucester. His performance earned him a £40,000 move to the Sky Blues but before he could make his league debut it was discovered he had glandular fever, a disease that ruled him out for the whole season. His first team chance came at the start of the following season but he failed to make an impression and was released in November 1990. He later moved back to Scotland and played two seasons for Queen of the South.
