Wynn came to prominence in Wrexham's Welsh Cup winning side of 1909 and earned the first of his 11 Welsh caps. He was enticed to step up from the Birmingham League to Manchester City, where he settled in at inside right. Despite his short stature and slight frame, (he was only 5 feet 6 inches and weighed 10 stone), his tremendous skill earned him many plaudits. In total, he scored 58 goals for the Maine Road club. He was signed for City in the club's attempt to escape from their desperate position in their first season in the Football League. His career came close to being ended when, during the Great War, his leg was nearly amputated following a bad injury.
