Jimmy Rogers
Jimmy, who had been on Wolves’ books as a teenager, joined City from Bristol City in December 1956 in a double deal along with Jack Boxley. He had been a prolific scorer for Bristol over six years playing 150-odd games for them, many of them alongside England international John Atyeo. The Bristol pair were signed with the proceeds of the Reg Matthews’ sale to Chelsea a few weeks before. Jimmy was at City during a very low period in the club’s history - they finished 16th in Division Three South in 1956-57 and the following season were ‘relegated’ to the new Division Four when they finished 19th. Jimmy, who could play on the wing or as an out and out centre forward, had his best period during the first half of the 1958-59 season in Division Four when he scored thirteen goals in seventeen games including seven in two games in a week against Aldershot. He notched four in the 7-1 home win and three in the 4-0 away win a week later. This followed a hat-trick against the same team the previous March. In November 1958 he rejoined Bristol City and had another four good seasons at Ashton Gate taking his appearance total to over 200. In 1962 he signed for Cinderford Town where he became player/manager before hanging up his boots in 1966.
