Craig Hignett

The experienced midfielder was one of numerous loanees brought in by Gary McAllister in 2002-03. He made his name at first Crewe in Dario Gradi’s school of soccer, and later at Middlesbrough, before a big money move to Blackburn in 2000. Competition was hot at Ewood Park and he was more often a substitute than a starter. The highlight of his brief stay at Coventry was a stunning volleyed goal against Derby.

After being released by Blackburn he joined Leicester on a free and has subsequently appeared for Crewe, again, Darlington and Hartlepool, for whom he made two substitute appearances last season. A media career beckons and he can be regularly heard as a Radio 5 Live summariser.
