The Welsh-born right winger with Italian parents signed as an a apprentice with the Sky Blues in 1973 and played in the same youth team as Les Sealey and Harry Roberts. He was 20 before he broke through to the first team, standing in for the injured Ray Graydon. 25 days later he made his full international debut for Wales against Czechoslovakia. Later that season he won his second and final cap as a substitute against West Germany.

Don played his part in the exciting 1977-78 season when Gordon Milne played a 4-2-4 formation and the team scored 75 goals in finishing seventh in the league. His one and only goal was the winner against Leicester City at Highfield Road. The following season he played more games but seemed to lack the confidence to be a real success. In 1980 he was farmed out to City’s US sister club Detroit Express and was a regular in the NASL side alongside Jim Holton, Mark Hateley and Gary Bannister.

The following summer he moved with the franchise to Washington Diplomats and played a few games alongside the legendary Johan Cruyff. On his return to England he joined the West Midlands Police and did play briefly for Nuneaton Borough. As far as is known he is still in the police force and approaching 30 years service. His son Daniel also became a professional footballer.
