Signed by Harry Storer from Rotherham for a small fee in the summer of 1950, the inside left got few chances owing to the form of Ken Chisholm. He had not excelled at Rotherham and did little at City to show that he was good enough at Division Two level. In December 1952 he joined Grimsby, dropping down a division, but could not win a regular place there either. He went on to play in non-league for Frickley Colliery, Gainsborough and Stocksbridge.
