John was a half-back who played a handful of games for City’s first team during his three year stay at the club from 1946-49. His debut was in a 1-1 draw at home to Barnsley in September 1946 and his other five appearances came the following season. During his time at the club he was a regular for the reserve team in the London Combination. After leaving City in 1949 he played for Bedworth Town, Atherstone, Nuneaton Borough and Bermuda and was still playing local football into his 40s. He later lived in Hinckley and still kept an eye on City’s results.
