George Raynor signed the half-back in early 1956 to fill a gap caused by injury to Lol Harvey and Jim played the last 13 games of the campaign. He started the following season as first choice in the position but new manager Harry Warren was not a big fan and preferred Iain Jamieson. Jim moved on to Yeovil in 1957. From Yorkshire roots Jim had started his professional career at Rotherham after signing from Moorworth Colliery. After 12 games in the Millers Second Division side Bristol City signed him and he played 22 games in their 1954-55 Third Division South championship side before arriving at City.
