John was a former playing colleague of Jimmy Hill at Fulham and had heaps of experience in Division One. When Fulham gave him a free transfer in 1966 JH swooped to sign the tricky winger. It was a shrewd signing as John scored six goals in 21 games including netting in vital games at Molineux and at home to Ipswich. An old-fashioned winger with the ability to take full-backs on and get a good cross over he created chances galore for his fellow strikers. He scored City’s first home goal in the top flight against Sheffield United (a header!) but after only six games in the top flight lost his place. John joined Leyton Orient in 1968 but retired soon afterwards and became a London cabbie. Now retired he lives in Surrey.
