A former England Schoolboy and Youth international Keith made over 100 appearances for Tottenham after coming through the White Hart Lane youth scheme. Gordon Milne signed him from Tottenham for £130,000 in early 1978 to cover an injury crisis in City’s memorable 1977-78 campaign. With Jim Holton, Mick Coop and Graham Oakey on the sick list City needed cover at the back and Keith’s pedigree with Spurs made him an ideal candidate. He put in some excellent performances at centre-back as City strove to get into Europe that season and scored his only goal with a fierce drive in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich.

The following season he got fewer opportunities as a young Gary Gillespie emerged on the scene, although he did turn out at right back in an emergency. In October 1979 he was way down the pecking order and joined Derby for £150,000. The Rams were in a poor shape however and were relegated from the First Division in his first season. Keith stayed another season at the Baseball Ground before a move back to London with Orient. By 1984 he was with Cambridge United and soon after in non-league with Stapenhill in the Leicestershire Senior League before a back injury forced him to hang up his boots. Keith still lives in Derby and is a member of Coventry’s Former Players Association.
