Local boy Stan was one of numerous local league players drafted in to City’s wartime side to cover for the first team stars in the services. The combative wing-half who played for Nuffield Mechanisation played a dozen or so games between 1942 and 1945. After the war the fierce tackler was signed on professional terms and got his chance when regular right-half Jack Snape was injured in September 1947. He filled in with solid performances for most of the season but when City’s injuries cleared up Stan was back in the reserves. In 1950 he joined Swansea Town but failed to make the first team. For many years Stan was a physiotherapist in Coventry.
