Don was a veteran when City signed him from Birmingham City in 1947. Before the war he had been a regular for Blues and won 3 Welsh caps. A qualified electrical engineer, he was in a reserved occupation during the war, and was available to represent his country in 15 wartime and victory international matches. Originally a goal-scoring inside forward he played mostly at wing half for City and in his first season helped them to safety from relegation.
In March 1950, having lost his place to fellow Welshman Bryn Allen he joined Third Division Walsall before giving up League football at the age of 37. He still played another couple of years of non-league football with Nuneaton Borough and Bilston. After retiring from the game he worked for BSA and British Leyland, and died in Sheldon, Birmingham at the age of 76.
