George McNestry
Harry Storer signed McNestry to add extra ammunition for Les Jones and Clarrie Burton, to help the club to promotion from Division 3(S). He achieved this and scored his fair share of goals. He had been a fringe player for First Division sides Leeds United and Sunderland, before making his mark at Luton and Bristol Rovers. He scored 26 goals in 2 seasons at Kenilworth Road and 47 in 3 years at Eastville.
Many of his City goals came from the penalty spot, but ironically, he missed the most important one when City were drawing in the final game of the 1935-36 season against Torquay United. Needing a victory for promotion, he put his spot kick straight at the keeper; fortunately, City still won and gained promotion. After only 7 appearances in Division 2, McNestry was forced to retire due to a knee injury.
