When Coventry City won the FA Youth Cup in 1987 Clark played in midfield and progressed to the first team fringes. A limited player who always gave his best and who scored an excellent goal against Forest in the final game of the 1988-89 season. A year later he had the misfortune to be marking John Barnes as Liverpool thumped the Sky Blues 6-1. He was released in 1991 and joined Shrewsbury following a brief loan at Darlington and in 1993 joined his old club-mate Greg Downs who was by then manager of Hereford United.
