A product of City’s youth scheme who played in the FA Youth Cup winning team in 1987, just weeks after making his first team debut as a full-back at Villa Park. Over the next two years Tony, a central defender by choice, made only one more appearance, before he took over as first choice left back in early 1989 and won four England Under 21 caps.
In 1990 however he lost his place to Paul Edwards and was in the reserves when Blackburn manager Don Mackay signed him and Steve Livingstone for a joint fee of £750,000. The tough tackling defender never won a regular place at Ewood Park and in 1993 moved to Portsmouth and later played for several clubs including West Brom, Northampton before ending his playing career in 2002 with Forest Green Rovers. Tony has managed in non-league with Rugby United and later Solihull Borough.
