It was at City that Billy Pick's career blossomed. He had failed to make the grade at either Bury of Portsmouth and played twice for Lincoln and 19 times for Newport, before James McIntyre bought him in a deal which involved David Ward moving to South Wales. His sparkling wing play was a significant factor in helping City move out of their "Stormy Period'. He set up a fine partnership with Jimmy Loughlin and scored a remarkable amount of goals for a winger in the 1929-30 season. This included the dubious distinction of scoring both goals for City in the 2-10 drubbing against Norwi-ch, which is still City's heaviest league defeat. He was surprisingly sold to Watford.
