In the summer of 1932, Harry Storer needed to solve a problem. His defence was leaky and goalkeeper Tommy Allen was past his peak, but the latter's natural replacement - Bill Morgan - was not quite ready to be blooded as the regular choice.

Storer needed a reliable, experienced keeper who could breach the gap. McSevich was an obvious choice. After a spell in Celtic's reserves and 36 games for Aberdeen, he had signed for Bournemouth and had impressed in the 4 years he had spent there. Although Steve Ogrizovic is the only keeper to score for City, McSevich experienced the delight of this feat when he netted for Bournemouth in the 4-1 victory over Brighton in October 1931.

He was however, playing at outside right after being injured earlier in the match. McSevich lost his place to Morgan, and was sold to Walsall shortly after. He eventually returned to Fellows Park as a backroom boy and stayed for many years.
