Tony MacPhee
MacPhee failed to establish himself at his home town club Hearts, and was forced to move to Ulster to gain a regular place, but was attracted back to the mainland by Workington before Bradford Park Avenue snapped him up in October 1936. 18 goals in 31 games encouraged Harry Storer to sign him for City. He never settled at City despite scoring a hat-trick in the 4-3 victory at Fulham. At Reading he achieved an excellent scoring rate either side of the War, scoring 85 goals in 4 seasons. During the War, he made regular appearances for Reading and guested briefly for Crystal Palace. He ended his playing days with a short spell at Banbury, before coaching at Reading and managing Walsall.
McPhee died aged 46, after spending his last years in charge of The George Hotel in Basingstoke.
