Hickman was a well thought of youngster who was surprisingly pushed into the first team after 2 successive defeats. He started well but was replaced by William Hunter. He was recalled in November 1927, but played his final League game against Millwall in the 1-9 disaster at the Den. With the arrival of Norman Dinsdale, Hickman was surplus to requirement and was released.
