Ben Underwood was a more than useful wing half who had been a reserve at Derby whilst Harry Storer was there. He impressed at Doncaster and was sold to First Division Leeds United. He only played 6 times for the Elland Road club before signing for City. He suffered serious injury in only his second match and struggled thereafter. He was forced to retire through injury in 1934.
